This was my first solar project. I bought a 100 watt Renogy panel and 30amp PWM charge controller.
I set it up in my back yard shed and planned to use it to keep my camper battery charged.
It was a bit bulky to move the panel for camping trips and performance was limited due to our camping mostly in wooded areas.
After reading about and wanting to get into solar for a long time on June 29, 2014, I ordered my first solar panel.
I paid about $175 for a 100Watt Renogy panel with a 30 amp PWM charge controller, some 20' cables with MC connectors and some mounting brackets.
This was also somewhat inspired by the recent purchase of a used 23' Kiwi Hybrid travel trailer that had some water damage.
The camper had a soft roof and I was leery of mounting the panel on the roof, so I never mounted the panel on the roof.
In the beginning I would take the battery from the camper and move the panel and charge controller and all to the shed, and then lug everything back to the camper for the next camping trip.
At some point I bought another battery for the shed so I only had to move the panel and charge controller.
We mostly camped in the woods so I was a bit underwhelmed by the panel output with all the shade despite moving the panel around to follow little patches of sunshine.
It was also bulky to pack and connect the wires to the battery. I was worried I would break the panel and it didn't seem worth the effort. After the first few trips I eventually stopped taking the panel with me.
